Getting Started

Step 1: Request API Access

If you don’t have an API token yet:
  1. Visit Request API Access
  2. Fill out the request form with your company details
  3. Our team reviews your request (typically 24-48 hours)
  4. Receive your API token via email

Step 2: Authenticate Your Requests

All API requests require a Bearer token in the Authorization header:
Token Details (self-service request):
  • Full API access to all endpoints
  • 1,000 requests per hour
  • 90-day validity (renewable)
Partner keys (issued by the incaseof.law team for a partner integration):
  • Valid for 365 days
  • Their own hourly limit, agreed with you
  • We are notified 30 days before a key expires and contact you. The key is then either extended (the same key keeps working) or we issue a second key, you switch over, and the old one is revoked — no downtime either way.
  • Build and test against the Partner sandbox with a separate sandbox key.
Rate limit: requests are counted per key and clock hour (UTC). Every response carries X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset (Unix seconds). Over the limit, the API answers 429 Too Many Requests with a Retry-After header (seconds until the next hour) — wait that long before retrying.
